How can children interact with plants through social activities?
Urbanization reduces people’s access to nature. Some people in cities lack the basic knowledge of plants, and they cannot identify plants commonly found in cities. Children's education is the most important factor in solving this problem. Botanists Wandersee and Schussler found through research in 1999 that the botany education activities performed helped the children to construct environmental perception and deconstruct the botanic blindness that affects most people since an early age. However, Botany content in biology textbooks in American schools is 14%. Social activity course become a good solution to solve this problem. Social activity can increase opportunities for children to interact with plants. Children can learn some botanical knowledge in the social activity.

In New York city, there are a total of 689,227 street trees. They will become elder and get ill. Some of them will falling down, which will affect city operation. Therefore, they need a health detection once a year. Detecting tree health is a good activity for children. This reduces the workload of tree maintainer, while also giving children a nice opportunity to interact with the trees.

Many of the tools on the market that detect tree health are very professional tools. These tools are hard to operate for children, and also boring for them. So, I design new tree health detecting tool for all aspects of tree health that need to be tested. Children can check tree health with a few experimental mini-games.
